The pros and cons of sponsored publications

The pros and cons of sponsored publications

If you are a partner in a law firm you are probably being inundated with invitations to participate in sponsored publications. Some invitations may be free of charge, but the majority involve a fee. We look in this short post at the pros and cons of sponsored publications. The upside. Pay-to-publish can be a good way of raising the profile of your firm. The opportunity to show your expertise in a practice area and jurisdiction is valuable. Having your name and firm details on another website can help clients validate your firms’ expertise. This is also good for your firm's SEO.…

Boutique law firms in legal directories

Should boutique law firms bother with legal directories? A boutique law firm asked me whether they had any chance of being ranked in legal directories if they serve many small clients but not many large corporations. The answer is: YES. Let me explain. Each directory is a bit different but in general terms, I would say they look at the following: ✔️ the team (partners and associates) ✔️the complexity of the case (as proof of the team’s skills) ✔️client service (from referees) ✔️consistent growth (returning and new clients) ✔️deal value I don’t think it matters if your clients are large/small companies…

Feeling festive? A reminder of Chamber and Partners January deadlines.

Feeling festive? A reminder of Chamber and Partners January deadlines.

No matter what your plans are you need to bear these deadlines in mind during the holiday season. What a better way to end the year preparing a directory submission and begin the new year clicking the “submit” button? Lawyers DO spend time on LinkedIn sharing, engaging and learning. Professionals in LinkedIn voluntarily created a profile and it would be safe to assume that they did so in order…

IFLR 1000 rankings

Last week I was in London meeting people for business and private. I was lucky with the weather, had decent Asian food and delicious fish and chips. I survived the tube. During this visit, I wanted to find out more about the legal directory IFLR 1000 so I arranged an appointment. To be honest I didn’t know this product until a client recently mentioned it. The EMEA Editor and Business Development from IFLR 1000 kindly spared some time for me. We met at their offices in Blackfriars, right opposite Freshfields. I thought wow! They must be doing well. It turns…

Legal Directories. Be selective.

Legal Directories. Be selective.

How many legal directories are there? I counted 11 yesterday but there are probably more. There is actually no reason why a firm should attempt to participate in ALL the directories out there. ✔Be SELECTIVE. How? Think of what you are trying to achieve as a firm. Do you want to enter a new market? Do you want to raise your firm’s profile in a specific practice area? Where are your potential clients? Choose a ranking that is popular in the country where you are trying to grow in. Speak to your contacts in the sector or in the country…
